Thanksgiving
Being Native American of Irish descent, it is time to give thanks on this still celebrated American holiday.
So, in order….
I thank my family and friends. It’s been an awesome ride let’s keep it going.
I thank the one’s we have lost along the way. Your guidance lives on forever.
I thank our armed forces and veterans for the freedom they give us.
I thank our first responders for the safety and care they provide.
I thank our Doctors and Nurses for keeping us alive.
I thank our Teachers, Aides and Guidance counselors for making a difference even when it’s not easy.
I thank the Light Dept for keeping the power on and Highway Dept for keeping the roads clear.
The good outnumbers the bad.

Speaking of Belmont
So far, no offers to buy my house for the $952 psf that the library is getting. I was thinking maybe the Town could buy it and then store all the books from the library in it through demolition and repair.
Abandon Ship
Selectman Adam Dash will not be seeking another term. Adam was very successful in doing what his predecessors couldn’t or in some cases actively tried to prevent. Adam was able to enact an extreme progressive agenda. I always felt Adam was more Somerville or Cambridge than Belmont and his leadership tended to use those Cities as the benchmark. I wish him, Kim, and the family well. The Town is on the verge of insolvency and whoever steps in for Adam better learn how to say “NO” even when its difficult and bring a big pair of scissors with them as that is what the future holds after aggressive spending the last decade.
UBJF
The UBJF (Unpaid Belmont Journalist Foundation) will be doing its first annual holiday drive. Donations of Taylor Swift tickets (3), Led Zeppelin or Van Halen tribute band tickets, Brothers Osbourne tickets, Bud Light (bottles preferred), a scally cap, or Klemm’s Glazed donuts are welcome. The UBJF is not a 501c organization. It doesn’t even exist but in case Santa is reading…
Rumor
The SC is considering eliminating busing altogether at the new BHS/MS as an option. Now that the library debt exclusion has passed it’s a quick shift back to the hard decisions the Town and Schools must make without a new override. Waiting to verify…

Blogging Belmont
Some think Blogging Belmont and Townie Talk don’t like each other. It’s not true. We get along fine just see things differently. My Mom doesn’t like when I use “potty words” but as Belmont’s premier journalist it’s important to get my point across even if the editor says, “warning this language may be inflammatory to your reader”. If you ask me about Blogging Belmont’s vision, I say its “bat guano” crazy. The ideas can’t be achieved without the destruction of economic class diversity in Town or an aggressive punishment of capitalism and success. In other words, the BB vision is nothing more than a façade for a socialist endgame. Make people believe your vision is nirvana but never let them see what lurks behind the curtain. Belmont is nearing the curtain phase….
I counter with a Townie Talk version.
What Belmont can be…
You drive down Trapelo Road and the light posts have flags paying tribute to current and former US Military veterans from Town as a reminder that our freedom was and is earned on the backs of the men and women who devoted their lives to the cause. Respect the elders…Longtime homeowners over 65, who have lived in Town over 30 years, get a tax break to recognize their lifelong contribution to the Town and incentivize them to stay without needing to take out liens on their homes. Prioritize students’ education by offering practical life skills as electives like intro to plumbing, woodworking, or cooking in place of contentious social issues or languages. Stop the de-masculinity of men. It’s OK to have a Marauder mascot with a dagger in its teeth. Set the bar higher… graduating from elementary and middle school is embarrassing. Teach some level of fiscal prudence by starting with teaching HS Seniors how to evaluate the ROI of going to college and if it even makes sense based on their career path. Bring back the HS Senior class play and prioritize fun musicals over things like Urine Town. Start treating Town and School employees like partners instead of indentured servants. They should feel they can speak candidly without fear of retaliation be it to fellow workers, management, residents, or parents. Those in public housing should be heard without that same fear of retaliation. Eliminate any children’s picture books implying police want to kill black people from library recommended lists or one’s that mention the devil. Create a local news source that covers all the news… good and bad with multiple points of views even those less popular. Offer youth sports that teach healthy competition without this participation trophy nonsense and please stop with the oranges. Become a Town that welcomes all… because they are blind to race, religion, gender, and income and don’t feel the need to constantly point out what divides over what unites. A Town that collects all garbage without added fees as was promised decades ago. A Town that doesn’t cater to the loudest but makes decisions based on common sense and prioritizes people over things and practical needs over wants. Can this be done… sure? The greatest generation and silent generation are prime examples of what can be done by focusing less on materialism and more on just being a good neighbor and citizen. Since its my vision I will add a bowling alley and movie theater that is required to play classics and have three stooges shorts in the previews. A minimum of one pub in each Town Center/Square that can stay open till 1pm and the return of donkey basketball to the high school.
World Cup update:
FIFA is run by people more corrupt than the MBTA pension system. How do you allow a Country with a horrendous human rights record and NO Beer to host the World Cup. Add in they can only host it in November (it should be held during the summer months when no interesting sports are on…). I must ask if any FIFA members also design bike lanes in their free time.
Football
The 100th annual Belmont vs Watertown Thanksgiving Day Football game will be played Wednesday at Fenway Park. Watertown comes in at 6-4 but played a weaker schedule versus Belmont’s 4-5 record. Watertown is favored by 6pts as their Defense has been stout holding opponents to 17pts a game. Belmont is putting up about 20pts a game but surrendering over 26.
Prediction: WatRats 27 Belmont 16
Answer:
In 1989, The first and only edition of Belmontopoly was released. Based off the board game Monopoly the supporting business had their companies listed as real estate destinations on the board.
Concord Ave Accident
In another, of a long list of accidents or near disastrous events due to new bike lane configurations on Concord Ave… an auto traveling toward Cambridge slammed on its brakes to avoid crashing into an open driver side door of a parked car. That auto was then rear ended by another car triggering the release of air bags. As winter weather approaches it will just get worse. This is all on the SB. They own it and they alone can change it. Any reasonable person knows this design is poorly fitted to this road and the inevitable is just a matter of time. Make the change back now.
